Dr Hywel Jones, XeraCarb’s CSO has presented XeraCarb’s latest developments in the pressure casting of armour ceramics at the MAST STC Defence Materials Forum.

The forum, organised by the UK MOD’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratories (DSTL) held at the National Composites Centre, Bristol on Nov 3rd 2015, brings together leading members of academia and industry to discuss the latest results of innovation driven projects funded by UK MOD through the MAST STC. The day saw presentations covering low observable systems, fire proof polymers, and super absorbent acoustic structures.

XeraCarb materials are currently being evaluated for use as personal body armour with the research sponsored by the UK’s Ministry of Defence.

This material offers significant advantages over existing armour in terms of the cost, shape and size of components which are possible and in terms of the total system weight.
